Jared Duval to hold listening tour, visit all 23 towns & cities in Washington Senate District

Montpelier – Jared Duval, a Democratic candidate for State Senate, will visit all 23 towns and cities of the Washington Senate district to listen to and talk with residents about the issues they are facing. Duval will go door to door and/or hold public events in every town and city in the senate district before August 9th. For a full calendar of upcoming events, visit www.jaredduvalvt.com/events

“I believe that all residents of this district deserve to be actively heard and served,” Duval said. “I will be meeting voters in every town and city in our district over the next two and a half weeks, ahead of the August 9th primary. If elected, I also commit to holding a listening session in each and every Washington County town and city, plus Stowe, Orange, and Braintree during every legislative biennium. That’s 23 total events every two years, in our 21 towns and 2 cities. I also commit to providing a regular newsletter to keep residents up to date on what is happening in the State House during the legislative session and to help connect residents with state and local services and programs year-round.”

Duval’s announcement follows the first forum of the campaign for State Senate that featured all 5 candidates running in the Democratic primary, hosted by VPIRG and Vermont Conservation Voters and moderated by Steve Pappas of the Times Argus. Video of the forum is available at www.jaredduvalvt.com/news. Duval came in first place in the ranked choice candidate preference poll following the forum. Full results are available at www.vpirg.org/washington-senate-rcv.

Duval has also earned over 70 individual endorsements from across the Senate District, in addition to organizational endorsements from groups committed to justice and the environment, including  Rights & Democracy, Renew U.S., and the Sierra Club. The full list of endorsements for Duval’s candidacy can be found at www.jaredduvalvt.com/endorsements

Duval’s career has been committed to building a greener, more equitable economy that boldly responds to the climate crisis and that works better for working Vermonters—especially lower- and middle-income families like the one he grew up in. “My main motivation to run comes from wanting to serve working class Vermonters who are struggling, as my parents did when I was growing up, and who deserve policy-makers who will stand up for them.”

Duval previously served in state government as Economic Development Director at the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development, where he supported working lands and clean energy businesses and workforce development. For the past five years he has served as Executive Director of the Energy Action Network, a statewide non-profit organization that conducts research and analysis on energy, equity, and the economy while supporting a diverse network of members that work to achieve Vermont’s energy and climate commitments. Duval is a member of the Vermont Climate Council and a co-author of Vermont’s Climate Action Plan.

A resident of Washington County since 2014, Duval lives in Montpelier with his wife, Rev. Joan Javier-Duval, and their eight-year-old son. He earned his Master in Public Affairs (MPA) degree from Princeton University (2014), with a concentration in domestic policy.  He is also an avid outdoors person who enjoys hiking, fishing, and hunting.
